I'm Jasmine R. a proud flutician (flautist),who loves music and writing. I have published my music theory project (song) with creativity based on my own personality to show self expression.

For my music theory project I was choosing a tonic to create a scale.A tonic note is a sound that the song is based on,so your song must be in the same key as your tonic. Every note has a major or minor scale,a ascending pattern of songs from your tonic to the same note an octave(8 intervals up) higher. While creating a scale I must know the key signature of the chosen note, meaning I need to find the flats and sharps in the scale. When that is done I must create triads, which consists of three notes that create consonance when played together.I have to use the correct triad for each note in my scales.Once I am finished I am ready to move onto part 2.

After I picked my tonic note and had all of the scales and triads I can write my melody. The tonic note is always the last and first note in the song. For now I don't have to worry about mixing in the harmony so for a majority of my song I can just write what sounds pretty.Even thought I can be creative with the sound on measure 4 I have to use a dominant note which is the 5th note in the scale and for the ending I have to go from a 7 chord to a 1 chord.A chord is a type of triad.Depending on whether or not the song is in a minor key or a major key decides the tone of the song. For instance the minor key song will sound melancholy or depressing whereas the major scale with be jubilant and happy.Once I'm finished I can move on to part 3 to create a harmony which compliments the melody.
Edit |
After I have completed my melody I must create a harmony. While creating my harmony I need to mix sounds that blend nicely together. For example my first measure of the melody contains my tonic note I have to use the first triad which contains the tonic note. After I figured out the triads I need to use I need to change the notes to bass clef.Once i have the notes in Bass clef I can put down the correct triad for each measure.Since I have the harmony and the melody my song now sounds complete and is ready to be listened to.
